An inmate at the W.C. “Dub” Brassell Detention Center has died following a medical emergency “of unknown nature,” the Jefferson County sheriff’s office said Thursday.
Kevin Baquet, 38, suffered the emergency at about 12:50 p.m. Wednesday, according to a news release. The sheriff’s office added jail staff responded quickly to the incident and began rendering aid.
Baquet was transported to Jefferson Regional by ambulance and received medical treatment and tests in hopes that his medical issue could be determined. Baquet died at the hospital at about 7:20 a.m. Thursday.
Sheriff’s officials say there are no signs of foul play. The incident is still under investigation.
