County circuit clerk to retire at term end

Jefferson County Circuit Clerk Flora Cook-Bishop will retire at the end of her term and not seek reelection.

Cook-Bishop recently announced her decision to retire from the office effective Dec. 31, 2026, after more than three decades of service.

“During my tenure — including prior appointments as circuit clerk and many years as chief deputy — I have worked with an exceptional team to improve customer service at every counter, safeguard the public records entrusted to our care, modernize access to filings and jury administration, and strengthen transparency and accountability in our day-to-day operations,” she said in a news release.

“I am deeply proud of the progress we have made together — such as introducing technology that streamlined juror selection and enhanced fairness in our courts — and I remain grateful for the confidence placed in this office over the years,” Cook-Bishop said.

Cook-Bishop is grateful to the staff, judicial partners, county leaders, and the community.

“Thank you for your trust, professionalism, and collaboration. I want to assure the public that all office operations will continue uninterrupted and nonpartisan through the conclusion of my term. Constituent service will remain our top priority, and the Office of the Circuit Clerk will continue to administer its duties fairly, efficiently, and with the integrity the public deserves,” she said.
