The Pine Bluff City Council Administration Committee overturned the firing Thursday of a terminated employee who had appealed that decision.
Aldermen George Stepps, Glen Brown Sr. and Thelma Walker heard from Veronica Young, the chief district clerk for Judge John Kearney. Young said she fired employee Latosha Harris for insubordination.
Young said Harris did not perform her duties and was argumentative and that her colleagues were afraid to approach her. Young said Harris “disrupted the harmony of the office.”
Harris refuted Young and said that she felt like she was fired for retaliation.
Young said she wrote a reprimand to Harris in May, who failed to report to her office for the next three business days. Harris said she was sick on those days.
Walker asked Harris when she began the job in question. Harris replied she began working in the job in July 2012 or September 2012.
Stepps, Walker and Glen Brown Sr. met in executive session and then voted to reinstate Harris. The three aldermen said that Harris will not be paid for the days she has not worked and will return to work on July 20.
