Corps issues small craft advisory for Arkansas River

The Army Corps of Engineers has issued a small craft advisory for the Arkansas River because of heavy rain in Northeast Oklahoma causing the river to rise in Arkansas.

Advisories are issued when flows exceed 70,000 cubic feet per second. Currents become swifter and stronger and large debris is carried downstream that could threaten the safety of pleasure craft.

Flows on the entire length of the Arkansas River are expected to be above 70,000 c.f.s. by Friday.

All pleasure boaters are urged to stay off the river until flows recede to safe levels. Daily river information can be obtained on the Internet at www.swl-wc.usace.army.mil. For more information about recreation and water safety at Little Rock District parks visit www.facebook.com/littlerockusace.
