The Alex Foundation partnered with Friends of John H. Johnson Museum and Mississippi State University College of Art, Architecture and Design to introduce Cornerstone Christian Academy students to place-based learning at the John H. Johnson Museum on Feb. 8.
Johnson, a native of Arkansas City, was founder of Johnson Publishing Co.
The students explored vernacular architecture and sketched the front elevation of the museum. They also learned about design features of the building.
The students also toured the John H. Johnson Commemorative Plaza at the Arkansas Delta Heritage Trail, according to a news release.
The architecture instructions were presented by architect Karen Spence of MSU. Spence earned a Bachelor of Architecture degree from the University of Arkansas, a Master of Science degree in architecture from the University of Cincinnati, and a Doctorate from Texas A&M University. She holds professional licenses in Maryland and Missouri.
