Construction on state Highway 4 between McGehee and Arkansas City requires alternating lane closures through the project completion, which is expected to be early 2017, weather permitting.
Lane closures began Wednesday, according to the Arkansas State Highway and Transportation Department.
Reconstruction will occur on sections of Highway 4. A temporary traffic signal will be used and this will result in extended periods of one-way traffic. Usage will be intermittent, but frequent to allow both construction work and traffic access to the roadway, officials said.
Resurfacing existing bridges and other sections of pavement will also cause intermittent one-way traffic on Highway 4. Traffic will be controlled by flaggers.
Drivers should exercise caution when approaching and traveling through all highway work zones. Additional travel information can be found at IDriveArkansas.com or ArkansasHighways.com. You can also follow us on Twitter @AHTD.
