Conservation field day to include UAPB fisheries experts

A conservation field day for youth will feature representatives from the University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff Aquaculture/Fisheries Center of Excellence at Millwood State Park near Ashdown.

The event for students 13 to 19 is scheduled for Wednesday, June 4 and begins at 10 a.m. at the Domtar Paper Mill.

After touring the mill, the teens will travel to Millwood State Park for a nature walk and to learn about tree identification, pond processing (identifying fish species), soil and water quality, surveying and careers.

Representatives from UAPB, University of Arkansas at Monticello and Cossatot Community College will discuss careers in fisheries, forestry, degree programs and training.

The field day is co-sponsored by the U.S. Department of Agriculture, UAPB, UAM, CCCUA, UACES, the Arkansas Forestry Commission, Arkansas Game and Fish Commission, Domtar Paper Mill and the Silas H. Hunt Community Development Corp.
