Connie Compton, a member of the Watson Chapel School Board of Directors, announced her candidacy for Jefferson County Circuit Clerk.
“If elected circuit clerk of Jefferson County, I will serve with honesty and dedication,” Compton said. “My goal is to ensure that the office continues to run efficiently and build upon the current advances in technology with innovative ideas so the citizens of Jefferson County can always rely on fairness and accessibility.”
Compton seeks to replace Flora Cook-Bishop, who recently announced her retirement as circuit clerk.
“A life-long citizen of Pine Bluff, Compton brings both personal dedication and professional experience to her campaign, pledging to serve with integrity, transparency, and accountability,” according to a news release.
A graduate of Watson Chapel High School and Southeast Arkansas College, Compton has been dedicated to public service.

The secretary on the Watson Chapel School Board, she is a graduate of Leadership Pine Bluff and a member of the NAACP.
Compton has more than 25 years of experience in the legal field, she said.
Her prior work experience includes:
Court Orders Clerk for Sixth Division Circuit Court – Juvenile Division;
Deputy District Court Clerk for the Jefferson County District Court;
Legal Secretary for Mitchell, Williams, Selig, Gates & Woodyard Law Firm; and
Case Coordinator for the Jefferson County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office.
A member of the Main Street Church of God in Christ, she serves as church administrator and Christian Education director.
“I am grateful to Mrs. Flora Cook-Bishop, our current circuit clerk, for her many years of dedicated service and extend my congratulations on her retirement. I deeply appreciate her endorsement of me as the next circuit clerk of Jefferson County,” said Compton.
Compton is also the mother of three adult children: Avrion, Jallen and Jada.
The filing period for candidates begins Nov. 3. The primary election is March 3.
