Doctors to address Ivy Center
The Ivy Center for Education’s Future Medical Professionals’ Club Scrub Workshop will be held from 6-7 p.m. Oct. 1. The event will be held at the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences (UAMS) South Central Campus, 1601 W. 40th Ave.
Seventh-12th graders interested in medical careers are encouraged to attend and parents are always welcome. Everyone should arrive by 5:45 p.m. and enter at the rear of the building, according to a news release.

The workshop topic will be Medical Careers. The presenters will be family medicine physician Dr. Rayna Penister and resident physician Dr. James Bass.

PENISTER
Penister, a UAMS physician, is a native of Rison. After graduating from the Arkansas School for Mathematics, Sciences, and the Arts in Hot Springs, she studied biology, earning a Bachelor of Science degree from Henderson State University.
Her interest in healthcare began as a patient care technician at Jefferson Regional Medical Center during high school.
“This hands-on experience with patients, nurses, and physicians ignited her passion for medicine, inspiring her to take the next step in her medical journey,” according to a news release.
At William Carey University College of Osteopathic Medicine in Mississippi, she earned her Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine degree in 2014.
“Her holistic approach to patient care emphasizes the importance of treating the whole person, body, mind, and spirit,” according to the release.
Penister is also a wife and mother of two boys.
BASS
Bass is a resident physician practicing at UAMS and JRMC.
“As a native of Pine Bluff, Ark., I laid the foundation for my academic journey at Pine Bluff High School,” he said.
The doctor furthered his education at the University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff, where he developed a passion for healthcare, according to the release.
“I pursued my medical degree at the University of Health Sciences in Antigua, equipping myself with the knowledge and skills to serve my community effectively,” he said. “With aspirations to enhance patient care and contribute to medical education, I am committed to making a positive impact in the lives of my patients and the broader healthcare landscape.”
