WH American Legion sets fundraiser
There will be a fundraiser at the White Hall American Legion Post at the corner of Huckleberry and Nancy streets Oct. 5 from 8 a.m. until about noon during Trade Day.
There will be rummage sale items for sale indoors and in the parking lot (weather permitting). The indoor sales include kitchen items, small appliances, vintage items and children’s toys. The exterior sales include tools, bicycles, toys and furniture.
Proceeds from the sale support the activities of the White Hall American Legion Post 232, according to a news release.
City to address flooding plan Oct. 1

The community is invited to attend the public meeting about the Pine Bluff Watershed Improvement Project from 5-7 p.m. Oct. 1 at the Kevin Collins Center in the civic center, 200 E. Eighth Ave.
“Are you tired of experiencing flooding issues in your neighborhood and other areas in and near the Pine Bluff, AR, community? Find out what’s being done to solve these problems,” according to a city news release on Stuff in The Bluff.com.
Residents are urged to join EFES-FTN JV and the Arkansas Black Mayors Association for a Watershed Improvement Project Public Meeting.
Presentations include reviewing the Draft Plan – EA for this project. In addition, the range of resource issues associated with the project and alternatives to addressing system improvements in the watershed will be discussed. To learn more, visit ABMAWatershedProject.com.
Entergy Arkansas earns award
Entergy Arkansas’ Entergy Solutions team has been awarded a 2024 Association of Energy Engineers Regional Award for Energy Project of the Year in the Central and South U.S. region. Entergy Solutions received the award for a project completed with City Corporation in Russellville, part of the Large Commercial & Industrial program, according to a news release.
“The projects made upgrades to City Corporation’s digester system and aeration basin and represent significant strides in conserving energy in wastewater treatment,” according to a news release.
These projects resulted in 2,886,700 kilowatt hours in electric savings and $288,000 in total dollars saved. Entergy’s incentives covered $410,152 of the total cost to implement these measures.
“These annual plant and systems upgrades help us sustain longevity of our systems as well as provide annual savings and energy cost to keep customer rates sustainable in an ever-increasing economy,” said Taryn Childers, chief financial officer of City Corporation. “We are very thankful for the partnership and look forward to how we can implement future projects with Entergy Solutions.”
Maya Angelou ceremony set
The community is invited to attend the second annual Day of Remembrance, celebrating the life and legacy of the late Maya Angelou, poet, civil rights leader, and entertainer, in Stamps, where she once lived.
The celebration will begin at 1 p.m.Oct. 12 at the Dr. Maya Angelou Memorial Park in Stamps. The community meal begins at 3:30 p.m., according to a news release from Celebrate! Maya Project of Arkansas.
The program is part of the Celebrate! Maya Project founded by Janis Kearney, a native of Gould, author, and former diarist for former President Bill Clinton.
Celebrate! Maya, Little Rock Central High School Historic Site, and the city of Stamps are co-hosting the Day of Remembrance in Stamps, the place young Marguerite Johnson (aka Maya Angelou) called home, and the place in which she began her literary journey.
“We are deeply grateful for friends and supporters who continue to play such an important role in our work with Arkansas children and communities,” according to the release. “We look forward to continuing and expanding our work over the next 10 years.”
