N2N Bingo Burger Bash, auction set

Neighbor to Neighbor will hold its annual Bingo Burger Bash & Silent/Live Auction from 5-9 p.m. Nov. 7 at the Pine Bluff Country Club.

“Join us for our biggest fundraiser of the year and enjoy an evening of Bingo, burgers, awesome prizes, and live and silent auction items,” according to a news release. “All proceeds go to fulfilling our mission of feeding the hungry in Jefferson County and providing services to people in crisis.”

Live auction items include a basketball signed by Coach John Calipari, a football signed by Coach Sam Pittman, a baseball signed by Coach Dave Van Horn and other specialty items.

Tickets are $50 and can be purchased in advance or at the door. Table sponsorships are also available. Tickets are limited, so interested participants are urged to purchase them soon. Pat Tate is executive director of Neighbor to Neighbor. Details: (870) 534-2883.

Area Agency plans menu

Area Agency on Aging of Southeast Arkansas is serving lunches from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. weekdays at the senior centers. Next week’s menu includes:

Sept. 23 — Pasta with meat sauce, green salad, garlic bread, Jell-O with fruit, and milk.

Sept. 24 — Tuna salad on wheat bread or with crackers, broccoli slaw, fresh orange, and milk.

Sept. 25 — Breaded pork cutlet with gravy, carrots, steamed cabbage zippy apple salad, and milk.

Sept. 26 — Mexican chicken, southwestern corn, zucchini, cookie, and milk.

Sept. 27 — Meatloaf, cauliflower with cheese, green peas, mixed fruit, and milk.

Agriculture Hall of Fame seeks entries

The Arkansas Agriculture Hall of Fame is seeking nominations from the public for its next class of inductees. The nomination deadline is Nov. 1.

The Agriculture Hall of Fame recognizes Arkansans who have contributed significantly to the state’s largest industry while spotlighting their contributions to the state’s economic development. Since its first class was selected in 1987, a total of 192 men and women have been inducted, according to a news release.

The nomination form provides space to provide the principal justification for a candidate’s nomination, a summary of the nominee’s contributions to agriculture and their community, a record of their professional experiences and their involvement in public service and support of agriculture.

The induction ceremony for the next class of honorees will be held March 28 at the Statehouse Convention Center in Little Rock.

Rice industry donates to Foodbank

The Arkansas rice industry donated 284,990 pounds of rice to the Arkansas Foodbank in honor of National Rice Month on Wednesday. The donation from 10 mills will provide more than 4.5 million servings of rice to help feed families, children and seniors across the state, according to a news release.

Participating rice mills are Anheuser Busch of Jonesboro, Arkansas River Rice of Pine Bluff, Golden Ridge Rice Mill of Wynne, Isbell Farms of Humnoke, Poinsett Rice & Grain of Jonesboro, Producers Rice Mill of Stuttgart, Ralston Family Farms of Atkins, Riceland Foods Inc. of Stuttgart, Riviana Foods of Carlisle and Windmill Rice Company of Jonesboro.

PBS to feature Congressional candidates

Candidates from Arkansas’ four U.S. Congressional District races will participate in “Election 2024: Arkansas PBS Debates,” which will livestream at myarpbs.org/elections and air live on Arkansas PBS daily Oct. 7-10. Debates will also be rebroadcast during primetime beginning Oct. 7.

Each debate will feature questions from a panel of journalists with moderator Steve Barnes. All debates will be held at the Arkansas PBS studios in Conway, according to a news release.

The following candidates have committed to participating in Arkansas PBS’s debates:

U.S. Congressional District 1 – Incumbent Rick Crawford (R), Rodney Govens (D) and Steve Parsons (L). The debate will livestream and air Oct. 8 at 11 a.m. and repeat at 7 p.m.

U.S. Congressional District 2 – Incumbent French Hill (R) and Marcus Jones (D). The debate will livestream and air Oct. 7, at 2 p.m. and repeat at 7 p.m.

U.S. Congressional District 3 – Caitlin Draper (D), Bobby Wilson (L) and incumbent Steve Womack (R). The debate will livestream and air Oct. 8 at 1 p.m. and repeat Oct. 9, at 7 p.m.

U.S. Congressional District 4 – Risie Howard (D) and incumbent Bruce Westerman (R). The debate will livestream and air Oct. 10 at 2 p.m. and repeat at 7 p.m.
