Lawyer vies for UAPB Ms. Alumni Queen

Danyelle Jones Walker, a lawyer and a 1992 graduate of the University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff, is running for 2024 UAPB/AM&N Ms. Alumni Queen. The contest is conducted by the UAPB/AM&N National Alumni Association, according to a news release.

A lawyer with the Law Office of Danyelle Walker, she has practiced in the consumer bankruptcy area for more than 28 years.

Walker received a Bachelor of Science degree in accounting at UAPB, where she graduated Summa Cum Laude, and earned a Juris Doctorate from the University of Arkansas at Little Rock Bowen School of Law in 1995, according to a bio.

Prior to entering into private practice, she was a law clerk for former Arkansas Supreme Court Justice Andree Layton Roaf. She is member of the Arkansas Bar Association, where she currently serves on the Board of Trustees, and is a past president of the Arkansas Bar Foundation.

She’s also a member of the Pulaski County Bar Association and serves on the VOCALS Board of Directors, the W. Harold Flowers Law Society, the Bowen School of Law Dean’s Advisory Board and was past president of Bowen’s Alumni Board.

Walker currently serves on the UA Little Rock Board of Visitors and the Arkansas Advocates for Children and Families Board, where she recently served as co-chair for the organization’s annual top fundraiser, Soup Sunday 2024.

She is a former special justice on the Arkansas Supreme Court, past Arkansas Pro Bono Partnership Attorney of the Year, past VOCALS Attorney of the Year, was awarded the Arkansas Bar Association’s Equal Justice Distinguished Service Award and was listed in the 2023 Soiree Magazine Best Attorneys in Little Rock.

She is the mother of Victoria, a senior at Tuskegee University, and Ethan, a freshman at the University of Illinois at Chicago.

Walker’s campaign focus is raising funds that provide scholarships for students to pursue their dreams, according to a StuffinTheBluff.com.

“I need you to join in my efforts to strengthen the ability of the university to move forward in this effort. The success of my campaign will require all of us to be engaged as well as being generous in our giving,” she said.

House of Bread to give away food

House of Bread Deliverance Church, 1501 W. Second Ave., will be open for the monthly food giveaway Saturday from 11 a.m. until all food boxes are gone. Proof of address must be at least a driver’s license, identification or utility bills, according to a news release.

All clients must fill out the new Oasis Insight Client form that has been used since August. The new form is being used by all pantries in the Arkansas Foodbank Network, according to a news release. Details: House of Bread pastor, Saint Mary Harris, (870) 872-2196.

Toys for Tots plans Santa visit

The local Toys for Tots Campaign is teaming up with Claus & Effect to raise funds and collect toys for area families. The community is invited to visit Santa and Mrs. Claus at the Food Truck Friday at Rison’s Pioneer Village on Friday from 5-7 p.m. or the Fall Pet Adoption Day on Saturday at Pine Bluff’s Petsence on Olive from noon to 2 p.m.

Everyone is encouraged to bring new, unwrapped toys, tools, items, puzzles and games, and give monetary donations for the Toys for Tots Campaign in Cleveland, Jefferson and Lincoln counties.

Youth are encouraged to bring their Christmas requests and parents are encouraged to bring their cameras.

“We are striving to make connections with local charities and are currently accepting donations and requests,” according to a news release.

For individual families desiring to sign up, the campaign is directing them to the following ministries so far: In Pine Bluff and White Hall, contact: Highland Ministries, 1320 S. “If you have a ministry in Cleveland, Jefferson or Lincoln counties, we can direct families to so we can provide them with toys, tools, puzzles, and games, please let us know that you’d like to partner with us so that we can strive to meet your needs,” according to the release.

Toys for Tots is a national organization with a “local touch.” Every campaign runs independently and is responsible for its service coverage area.

“Claus and Effect is a community outreach nonprofit serving the Fordyce Arkansas area. We believe that through God’s love you can Claus a positive Effect in your community,” according to the release.
