City plans healthcare, job fair
The Healthcare and Public Service Career Fair will be held from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Wednesday at the Pine Bluff Convention Center. The purpose is to address critical workforce shortages in Jefferson County, according to a news release.
The city of Pine Bluff Economic and Community Development, in partnership with the Southeast Arkansas Economic Development District and Arkansas Department of Workforce Services announced the event.
“This job fair is one of several that we’ve sponsored over the past year to help close the employment gap we’re seeing in our community,” said Lori Walker-Guelache, director of Economic and Community Development.
Online job search sites, such as Arkansas JobLink, typically show between 300-400 jobs available in Pine Bluff/Jefferson County daily.

“We’re working to strengthen pathways of opportunity and help connect local job seekers and employers,” she said.
Pine Bluff city departments will be on-site to conduct immediate interviews. Job seekers are encouraged to bring resumes and be prepared for on-the-spot interviews.
The event will showcase opportunities across multiple sectors, including healthcare, emergency services, community services, government, and education.
The job fair will feature immediate interview opportunities, information about training and certification programs, career counseling services, resume review assistance, and information about employee benefits and career advancement opportunities.
Current employment data underscores the significance of this project:
Pine Bluff’s unemployment rate stands at 4.9%, compared to the state average of 3.3%.
There are jobs available in the community with competitive salaries well above the area’s median household income of $39,000.
Public service positions present stable career pathways with benefits and professional development opportunities.

USACE waives fees for Veterans Day
The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers announced that it will waive day use fees at recreation areas nationwide in observance of Veterans Day on Nov. 11.
The waiver covers fees for boat launch ramps and swim beaches only. The waiver does not apply to camping and camping-related services or fees for specialized facilities and events, according to a news release.
Other agencies that manage recreation areas on USACE lands are encouraged, but not required, to offer the waiver in the areas they manage.
Visitors should contact USACE projects prior to visiting to ensure recreation areas are open. The status of USACE-managed campgrounds, boat ramps, swim beaches and other sites are available at https://corpslakes.erdc.dren.mil/visitors/status.cfm?state=AR.
