PB native finalist for Austin Under 40

Kynan Dancy, a Pine Bluff native, has been named a finalist for the Austin Texas Under 40 Awards. Winners will be announced June 1 at the 25th annual awards gala and fundraiser at the JW Marriott at Austin, according to a news release.

Born and raised in Pine Bluff, Dancy works in banking and finance. He was nominated for Austin Texas Under 40 Awards in the People and Operations category. A 2011 Pine Bluff High School graduate, Dancy has even been able to explore the world by visiting 42 countries so far.

Artificial insemination talk at cattle event

Artificial insemination is a powerful tool that cattle producers can use to improve efficiency and profitability in their herds.

On June 13-14, a hands-on training course will teach cattle producers how to use the technology. The workshop will be offered at the Southwest Research and Extension Center, located at 362 Hwy 174 North in Hope, Arkansas.

The presenter will be Charles Looney, an extension professor of cattle improvement for the University of Arkansas System Division of Agriculture, who is recognized internationally for his expertise in cattle genetics and reproductive technologies.

Topics to be covered include: basic reproductive anatomy and physiology; estrous synchronization; semen handling; pregnancy determination methods; reproductive health; training in artificial insemination on live cattle.

Looney also will provide information on nutrition, herd health and record keeping, basic reproductive anatomy and physiology, pregnancy determination methods and more.

The workshop will run 8 a.m.-5 p.m. the first day and 8 a.m.-3:30 p.m. on the second day. Registration is $450 and includes lunch. The registration deadline is June 11, and participants can register at https://uada.formstack.com/forms/beef_cattle_ai_2024.

Water rights among conference topics

Instream water rights and the future of irrigated ag are among issues on the agenda for the National Agricultural Law Center’s second annual Western Agricultural & Environmental Law Conference.

The event will be held June 13-14 in Reno, Nev., according to a news release.

“The Western agricultural industry is confronted with a unique body of legal and policy issues, with water issues often at the very top of the list,” said Harrison Pittman, director of the National Agricultural Law Center. “We’re thrilled that some of the most respected water law experts in the West will be part of our terrific lineup of conference sessions.”

The conference, which will be held at the University of Nevada, Reno, will also be livestreamed. A complete conference agenda, as well as conference registration, is available at https://nationalaglawcenter.org/western2024/.

The Western Conference features 12 hours of continuing legal education credits, including two hours of ethics. It has been approved for CLE in Nevada and Idaho, and will be submitted for approval in Oregon, California, Arizona and Utah. It has also been approved for continuing education from the American Society of Farm Managers and Rural Appraisers. The NALC will coordinate with attendees to self-report in other states.
