Director to graduate, speak at Clinton School

Tomekia Moore, executive director at Arkansas Community Action Agencies Association, is slated to graduate and deliver the student address at the Clinton School of Public Service Spring Commencement Ceremony.

The ceremony begins at 10 a.m. Saturday at the Ron Robinson Theater in Downtown Little Rock.

A life-long Pine Bluff resident, Moore is scheduled to receive a Master of Public Service degree from the Clinton School, according to a news release.

During her tenure at ACAAA, she has led the charge for community action at the state level.

“Developing tools and resources for state agencies, Moore has been tasked with cultivating a unified voice and advocacy for community action in Arkansas,” according to the release. “She formerly fostered opportunities for youth and families across southeast Arkansas as the unit director of the Boys & Girls Club of McGehee.”

At the University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff, she earned a degree in early childhood education. Additionally, Moore is also a board member of the Arkansas Early Childhood Association and participates as a steering committee member of Arkansas Kids Count, an affiliate program of Arkansas Advocates for Children & Families.

Also at the Clinton School graduation, Anita B. McBride, former chief of staff to First Lady Laura Bush, will deliver the commencement address, and Mary Steenburgen, an Academy Award-winning actress and native of Newport, will receive the Clinton School’s first Honorary Master of Public Service degree, according to https://www.facebook.com/clintonschool/.

Chamber names new Expo speaker

The Pine Bluff Regional Chamber of Commerce announced a change in guest speakers for the Business Expo Breakfast on Thursday at the Pine Bluff Convention Center at 7:30 a.m.

Chris Racey, the chief of staff at the Arkansas Game and Fish Commission, will replace AGFC Director Austin Booth as the speaker. An unexpected commitment developed, according to the Chamber newsletter.

“Mr. Racey brings a wealth of knowledge and experience to the table, and we are confident that his address will be both insightful and inspiring for all attendees,” a spokesman said.

The Business Expo Breakfast begins at 7:30 a.m. and the program starts at 8 a.m. The Business Expo trade show at the convention center will open with a VIP Hour from 9-10 a.m. and opens to public from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Details: Chamber Director Jennifer Kline at jennifer@jeffersoncountyalliance.com or (870) 535-0110.

Center to honor future medical students

The Ivy Center for Education Inc. will present its annual Future Medical Professionals Club Scrub Class of 2024 White, Green and Black Coat Ceremony from 6-8 p.m. Thursday in the J&R Conference Room at Jefferson Regional Medical Center.

The speaker will be Dr. Brandi Wright, a physician at Jefferson Regional Nephrology Associates and Jefferson Regional Medical Center.

“The ceremony will highlight amazing scholars who promote academic excellence, have a high respect for careers in medicine and demonstrate good character,” according to a news release.

The ceremony will be live streamed on the Ivy Center for Education’s Facebook page. The event is made possible through a JRMC Health Grant, a program of the Pine Bluff Area Community Foundation/Arkansas Community Foundation.

UAM to hold commencement May 10

The University of Arkansas at Monticello will hold its spring commencement exercises May 10 in the Steelman Field House at 10 a.m. and 2 p.m., according to a news release.

The 10 a.m. ceremony will include the College of Forestry, Agriculture and Natural Resources, the School of Mathematical and Natural Sciences, the School of Nursing, the School of Social and Behavioral Sciences and the Division of General Studies.

The 2 p.m. ceremony will include the School of Arts and Humanities, the School of Business, the School of Computer Information Systems and the School of Education.

Scheduled speakers include UAM Chancellor Peggy Doss, and Donald R. Bobbitt, president of the University of Arkansas System.

Special recognitions will include the Hornaday Outstanding Faculty Award and the Distinguished Alumnus Award.
