UAPB to host TV’s Dr. Jackie Walters
Dr. Jackie Walters, star of “Married to Medicine,” will be the distinguished lecturer for Women’s History Month at the University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff at 10 a.m. March 28 at the H.O. Clemmons Arena.
The UAPB community and the public are invited to attend this event, where Walters will share insights and experiences, highlighting the importance of women’s leadership and empowerment.
Walters is an obstetrics and gynecology specialist.
“A respected women’s health advocate, entrepreneur, and television personality, Dr. Jackie Walters brings a wealth of experience and expertise to this momentous occasion,” according to a news release. “Her dedication to empowering women and promoting health and wellness aligns seamlessly with the university’s commitment to celebrating the achievements and contributions of women throughout history.”

She is one of the longest-running stars on BRAVO TV. After earning two bachelor of science degrees from the University of Mississippi and Alcorn State University, and graduating from the University of Mississippi School of Medicine, Walters completed her residency in obstetrics and gynecology from the Medical Center of Central Georgia and Mercer University, according to bravotv.com.

Reclaim community topic at event
The Carnell Russ Branch of the NAACP will sponsor the 2024 annual Reclaim the Community Program at 3 p.m. Sunday at Westside Baptist Church of Star City. The keynote speaker will be the Rev. Alvin Newburn, according to a news release. Details: Leatrice Russ-Glenns at leatriceglenns@gmail.com.
DAR to meet
The John McAlmont Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution will meet at 1:30 p.m. March 19 at Lakeside United Methodist Church Center, 1500 S. Laurel St. The program will be “War of 1812 and Dartmoor Prison,” presented by George Mitchell of Pine Bluff, according to a news release.
Ministry to honor Savage, Shaw
Pleasant View Ministries will honor musical artists Keith Savage and William “Bubba” Shaw III during a Lifetime Achievement Award Ceremony at 6 p.m. Saturday. This event will be held at New Community Church, 321 N. Birch St..
Musical guests include the Williams Singers, Voices of Deliverance, the Shaw Boys, Gekisha Shaw and the Pleasant View Reunion Mass Choir. The host will be Johnnie Walker, a minister, according to Stuff in The Bluff.com.
Patrick Lockett is the apostle and senior pastor of New Community Church. William A. Shaw Jr. is pastor of Pleasant View Ministries.
Desert Rose to play at Chamber event
The Pine Bluff Regional Chamber of Commerce will host the local band “Desert Rose” during the “Shells & Shadows” Solar Crawfish Boil from 3-6 p.m. April 7 at the alleyway and parking lot of the Arts & Science Center for Southeast Arkansas, 701 S. Main St.
“Desert Rose” is made up of teenagers from the area and is affiliated with Jetway Performance out of Hensley, according to the Chamber newsletter.
