PBICVR names new board member
Pine Bluff Interested Citizens for Voter Registration Inc. has added Timothy Mitchell, a former PBICVR King Team member, to its board of directors.
Mitchell is an extension assistant specialist and accountant at the University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff, according to a news release.
Mitchell is a 2011 graduate of Pine Bluff High School. He graduated from UAPB in 2016, majoring in agricultural business. He has a Master of Business Administration degree from Webster University. He was also recognized by Delta Mu Delta International Academic Honor Society for achieving the highest grade point in school history, according to the release.
He becomes the fourth King Team alumnus recently selected as a board member.

“I am pleased to see the many seeds planted yield fruit in the city and state, e.g., teachers, judges, business owners, prosecuting attorneys, politicians, head college baseball coaches, Arkansas Hall of Fame, NFL Hall of Fame football players, etc., have been associated with the mentoring program,” said the Rev. Jesse Turner, PBICVR executive director.
Mitchell joined the King Team in 2003, where he was chaplain. He participated in Pen or Pencil initiatives, drug education for youth, PBICVR Community Cleanups, and the Original KingFest Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Marade Festivities. He has studied the Six Principles of Nonviolence, anti-bullying, and conflict resolution skills.
PBICVR selected Mitchell to be on stage with First Lady Michelle Obama as she delivered the keynote address at the National Mentoring Summit in January 2011 in Washington, D.C., at the Library of Congress.
He is in the deacon ministry at Rose Hill Missionary Baptist Church.
Mitchell said God leads him to serve others. He has compassion for helping others achieve their dreams and accomplishments and to motivate others like him to strive for excellence in being a learner today and a leader tomorrow, according to the release.
Runoff election, early voting set
The Jefferson County Clerk’s Office announced election related dates regarding the April 2 runoff. Early voting will be held March 26 through April 1.
Two races will be on the ballot:
Pine Bluff mayoral race between Mayor Shirley Washington and state Rep. Vivian Flowers.
Third Ward city council position between Council Member Glen Brown Sr. and William Fells.
Election related dates:
March 25 — Sample ballots available on Voter View Website on the Secretary of State website.
March 25 — Absentee Ballots will be sent out. Voters must request an absentee ballot application from the county clerk’s office.
March 26 — First day of early voting. Early voting is held from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the Jefferson County Courthouse.
March 26 — This is the first day a bearer can pick up ballots (maxium 2).
March 26 — This is the deadline to receive absentee ballot applications by mail, fax, email.
March 29 — This is the deadline to submit in-person absentee applications for ballots, deadline for the bearer/administrator to deliver absentee ballots, and deadline for county-to-county transfers.
April 1 — This the last day for early voting. It ends at 5 p.m.
April 2 — Election day. Designated polling sites will be open from 7:30 a.m. to 7:30 p.m.

Area Agency announces Bass Tournament
The Area Agency on Aging of Southeast Arkansas will host the 26th annual AAASEA Reeling for Meals Bass Tournament on April 6 at Pine Bluff Regional Park.
Boats will launch according to their paid registration numbers. The early entry fee is $110 per two-person team, which also puts the participant in the $500 Big Bass Pot. The entry fee includes two tickets to the King Kat Fish Fry immediately following the weigh-in, according to a news release.
The tournament winners will receive a $2,500 cash prize, and the top 10 places are guaranteed cash prizes, as well. Additionally, the first 75 registered teams will receive a free official tournament shirt.
Area Agency provides many services to seniors and those with disabilities including home care, transportation, senior centers, and Meals on Wheels.
