Concert to feature Desha County native

The Judy Kohn Tenenbaum Argenta Contemporary Theatre at North Little Rock will host Michael Rice: A Homecoming Concert on Sunday at 2 p.m. and 7 p.m. Concert tickets are $75 each. Proceeds will benefit the ACT II Sharon Heflin Performing Arts Education Program, according to a news release. The concert will include three works by Rice — Americanisms, American Beauty, and During Wind and Rain — all inspired from Rice’s Desha County roots, according to the release.

The program will consist of Rice’s theatre compositions, both music and lyrics with highlights from Americanisms, (A Song Cycle), The Good Woman of Setzuan, produced at the Arkansas Rep in 1985, with Book by Bertolt Brecht, American Beauty, (originally titled Pageant!) produced at The Rep in 1985, both directed by the late Cliff Baker, and During Wind and Rain, a musical drama, with libretto by Margaret Jones Bolsterli and directed by Judy Trice, produced by Argenta Community Theater in 2017. Rice was the original musical director and arranger for the off-Broadway hit Nunsense, which won the Outer Critic Circle Award for Best Musical in 1985 and was musical director for Dick Gallagher’s Have I Got a Girl for You. As a conductor/pianist he also worked on the national Broadway tours of Cats, Peter Pan, Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat, Jesus Christ Superstar, and Camelot, according to the release.

Performing with Michael Rice will be: Bob Bidewell, Jean Cantrell, Karen Q. Clark, Sarah Dailey, Daniel Felton, Ben Grimes, Lauren Lasseigne, Kathryn Pryor, Claire Rhodes, Amanda Smith, Judy Trice and Will Trice.

Urban Renewal board to meet

Pine Bluff Urban Renewal Monthly Board meeting will be held at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday at the URA Board room, 417 W. Sixth Ave., according to a news release.

PB school board to meet

Retired Teachers Group to meet

The Jefferson County Retired Teachers Association will meet at 11:30 a.m. March 21 in the Donald W. Reynolds Community Services Center, 211 W. Third Ave., according to a news release. The program will focus on a healthy lifestyle and exercises for retirees led by Jason Rogers from the Jefferson Regional Medical Center Wellness Center, Louis Moss with the LM Striders, and Jeremy Matthews from the Area Agency on Aging of Southeast Arkansas.

Pantry sets giveaway, carnival, honor

First Ward Living Grace Pantry, 1201 Commerce Road, will host a spring break carnival and Easter giveaway at 2 p.m. Sunday. Groceries and barbecue will be given away and officials will recognize Barbara Dunn, executive director of Institutional Advancement and Community Relations at Southeast Arkansas College, according to a news release.

Caregivers Alzheimer’s supporters to meet

The Caregivers Alzheimer’s Support Group Meeting will be held from 11 a.m to noon Monday at Area Agency on Aging of Southeast Arkansas, 709 E. Eighth Ave. The topic will be Alzheimer’s Disease/Hospice. The presenter will be Kimberly Schafer, volunteer community educator with the Alzheimer’s Association and an employee of Arkansas Hospice.

DAV sets virtual career fair

DAV (Disabled American Veterans) and RecruitMilitary® will co-host the National Virtual Career Fair, March 19 from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. The event is free to veterans, their spouses, active-duty military personnel and members of the National Guard and Reserve, according to a news release.

More than 80 employers actively seeking the unique talents of America’s veterans will be on-site. In addition, veterans can utilize career counseling and resume assistance, network with fellow veterans and military personnel, and get support with their Department of Veterans Affairs benefits and claims assistance — all free.
