GOP closes primaries

The new rule closing Republican primaries won’t impact the Nov. 5 general election, according to a news release.

Under a new Republican rule, voters must be registered Republicans before being issued a Republican primary ballot to vote in a Republican Party primary election.

“The vote to close Republican Primaries will not affect a voter’s right to vote for who they choose in the upcoming 2024 general election,” according to a news release.

“However, voters who choose to register as a Republican will need to complete a new voter registration application and indicate their party affiliation to update the county records prior to the 2026 primaries,” according to the release.
