“Hosting this event in partnership with our neighbors at the Dale Bumpers National Rice Research Center enables us to offer a broader picture of the research and other work being done in support of the rice industry in Arkansas and across the United States,” said Alton Johnson, director of the Rice Research and Extension Center.

There will be two field tours which start at 7:30 a.m. at the Foundation Seed Facility and will repeat at 9:30 a.m. so attendees can see all stops.

Corn College to offer tours, training

Corn producers will have the opportunity to learn about the latest research and get hands-on training in areas such as weed control, insect and disease management, and nutrient deficiency identification at the University of Arkansas System Division of Agriculture’s inaugural Corn College.

Corn College will be held Aug. 7. The training will be from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Lon Mann Cotton Research Station in Marianna. Check-in begins at 8 a.m., and tours and training start at 8:30 a.m., according to a news release.

“Unlike a regular field day, this is an opportunity for crop consultants, producers and industry professionals to see first-hand corn production programs and have in-depth discussions and hands-on training on issues facing Arkansas growers,” said Jason Kelley, extension corn agronomist for the Division of Agriculture.

Attendees will tour the research station and receive hands-on training in weed control programs, insect and disease identification and management, irrigation management, nutrient deficient identification and management, and agronomic considerations.

Registration is $100, and the deadline to register is Aug. 2. Registration is online at https://uada.formstack.com/forms/corn_college. No on-site registration will be offered. Continuing education units will be available and lunch will be provided.
