Council seeks nominees for art awards

The Arkansas Arts Council is seeking nominations for the 2025 Governor’s Arts Awards. Sept. 6 is the deadline to submit nominations for those whose work continues to strengthen the arts in Arkansas.

The annual awards program recognizes outstanding individuals, organizations and businesses for their influence on the arts in Arkansas, according to a news release.

The public is encouraged to submit nominations for the following categories: Arts Community Development, Arts in Education, Corporate Sponsorship of the Arts, Folklife, Individual Artist, Patron and Lifetime Achievement Awards. Finalists are chosen by an independent panel of arts professionals and will be honored at a ceremony in the spring.

Nominees must be current Arkansas residents or Arkansas-based corporations or organizations. Outstanding artists, arts patrons, corporate sponsors, arts education coordinators and local leaders in arts development are all eligible.

Caregivers’ support group to meet

The Caregivers Alzheimer’s Support Group Meeting will be held from 11 a.m to noon Monday at Area Agency on Aging of Southeast Arkansas, 709 E. Eighth Ave.

The topic is Pallative Resouces. The speaker is Verline Forney, patient ‘s care representative of Home Care Hospice Care, according to a news release.

Area Agency plans menu

Area Agency on Aging of Southeast Arkansas is serving lunches from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. weekdays at the senior centers. Next week’s menu includes:

July 15 — Pasta with meat sauce, green salad, garlic bread, Jell-O with fruit, and milk.

July 16 — Tuna salad on wheat bread or with crackers, broccoli slaw, fresh orange, and milk.

July 17 — Breaded pork cutlet with gravy, carrots, steamed cabbage, zippy apple salad, and milk.

July 18 — Mexican chicken, southwestern corn, zucchini, cookie and milk.

July 19 — Meatloaf, cauliflower with cheese, green peas, mixed fruit, and milk.
