Women Empowering Women set
The Arkansas Small Business and Technology Development Center will host Women Empowering Women: Building Black Businesses from 5:30-7:30 p.m. Feb. 22 at The ARTSpace on Main, 623 S Main St.
The workshop is free and open to everyone. The registration deadline is 5 p.m. Feb. 22. Participants can learn how to start a business the right way, according to a news release.
Topics include Business Start-up/Preplanning and Women-owned Businesses.
“This in-person event combines motivation and action all in one,” according to the release. “We will have a women-led panel, followed by a workshop where you can start drafting your business plan with our guided help.”

Panelists will include Adriene F. Brown of the U.S. Small Business Administration Arkansas District; Katie Branch, Chick-fil-a of Pine Bluff; and LaTisha Brunson, Pine Bluff City Council member.

PB school board meets Jan. 22
The Pine Bluff School Board meeting will be held at 6:30 p.m. Jan. 22 in the boardroom in the Jordan-Chanay building, 1215 W. Pullen St. Superintendent Jennifer Barbaree will give the annual report to the public and facilities update, according to a news release. Details: (870) 543-4203.
Healthcare enrollment deadline set
The final marketplace open enrollment deadline has been set. People who qualify for the government’s healthcare coverage are urged to enroll in Marketplace coverage on HealthCare.gov. If enrolled by the Jan. 16 deadline, their health care coverage for 2024 will begin on Feb 1, according to a news release from the U.S. Department of Health & Human Services.
WBU names local to Dean’s List
Williams Baptist University at Walnut Ridge recently named Kyrah Banister of DeWitt to its Dean’s List for the 2023 fall semester. The Dean’s List consists of full-time students with at least a 3.5 grade point average, according to a news release.
Summit band to begin rehearsals
The Summit Soundz Celebration Band will meet from 5-6 p.m. Jan 17 at Summit Baptist Church, 901 Ridgway Road, and begin preparing for its 2024 concert series.
Summit Soundz is a wind band made up of adults and students in junior high school and college. Rehearsals are Wednesdays at 5 p.m. and usually one Sunday afternoon per month.
