JRMC names McClure chief of staff
Emergency medicine physician, Dr. Tim McClure, has been named chief of staff for Jefferson Regional Medical Center in Pine Bluff. McClure will serve as chief of staff for two years, according to a news release.
McClure earned his medical degree from the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences and completed his residency in Pine Bluff at the UAMS Area Health Education Center. He is currently seeing patients in the JRMC emergency department.
Pilgrim to give away food
Raven’s Nest Food Pantry at Pilgrim Missionary Baptist Church, 2507 Hill St., will open Jan. 13 from 8-9:30 a.m. or until all the food has been given away. Food will be handed out on a first come, first-served basis. Participants must bring a picture identification. The pantry is a U.S. Department of Agriculture distribution site and an equal opportunity provider, according to a news release.

TOPPS to give away food
TOPPS (Targeting Our People’s Priorities with Service) will hold its monthly food giveaway Jan. 9 from 10 a.m. until all the food boxes are gone.
The drive-thru food distribution method will continue to be used and each household will receive one box. To receive a box, participants must be present at the event and show their ID, according to a news release.

Future Engineers to meet
The Ivy Center for Education’s Future Engineers will meet at the Generator, at 435 Main St., from 6-7 p.m. Tuesday. Science, Math and Engineering Concepts will be addressed by Sederick Rice, Ph.D, associate professor at the University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff.
There will also be hands-on activities during the workshop. Seventh through 12th graders and parents are encouraged to attend. Prizes will be awarded. County clerk issues election details
The Jefferson County Clerk’s Office reminds voters of the procedures for absentee ballots and the early voting and other dates associated with the primary election March 5.
ABSENTEE BALLOTS
All voters who want an absentee ballot must contact the county clerk’s office. Act 736 prohibits the county clerk from sending unsolicited absentee applications to voters who have not requested a new ballot application, according to a news release.
The county clerk’s office has absentee ballot applications available to the public starting today. Applications will be available weekdays from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Voters may also visit the website at http://www.jeffersoncountyar.gov/elections-voter-registration to download an application. The completed form can be hand delivered or mailed to the Jefferson County Clerk’s Office, 101 W. Barraque St., Ste. 101, Pine Bluff, AR., 71601, or faxed or emailed to the office.

Independent candidates (for the November General Election) can start circulating petitions. Petitions must be filed by noon May 1.
Feb. 4
This is the last day to register to vote for the preferential primary and school election.

Early voting starts for the Primary Election. Early voting is set from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. through March 4 (including Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.)
