SEARK closed
Southeast Arkansas College is closed today. This closure includes all activities, including on-campus, hybrid, and online classes, according to a news release.
The college closed out of an abundance of caution, due to the current road conditions, power outages, and the continuing record-low temperatures. SEARK officials will evaluate their ability to open campus Wednesday and communicate to everyone as soon as a decision is made.
County offices closed
The Jefferson County Courthouse and county offices will be closed today due to inclement weather, according to a news release.

City offices closed
Pine Bluff city hall and related offices will be closed today due to inclement weather. All transit routes will be closed due to road conditions. The Pine Bluff City Council meeting will be held virtually at 5 p.m. today and Zoom details will be available on the city’s website and social media pages, according to a news release.
WC schools closed
Watson Chapel School District will be closed today due to inclement weather, according to a news release.
WC board to meet
The Watson Chapel School Board will hold its regular monthly meeting at 6 p.m. Thursday at the district office, 4100 Camden Road. The previous announced date was incorrect. Details: (870) 879-0220.
House of Bread offers free food
House of Bread Deliverance Church, 1501 W. Second Ave., will hand out its monthly food boxes Saturday from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. or until all boxes are gone. Since this is a New Year, all clients must be recertified to meet the food bank guidelines.
New intake forms for 2024 must be filled out on all clients. Proof of address must be at least a driver’s license or utility bills and the proof must match the information. Holcomb to speak at GOP meeting
The Jefferson County Republican Committee will meet at 6 p.m. Jan. 25 at Larry’s Pizza in White Hall. The guest speaker will be state Rep. Mike Holcomb. The meeting will include electing the county committee officers, laying out plans for this election year, registering new members, and accepting registrations from members who missed the November filing period, according to a news release.
AARP accepts community grant forms
AARP Arkansas invites local eligible non-profit organizations and governments across the country to apply for the 2024 AARP Community Challenge grant program, now through March 6 at 4 p.m.
The grants fund quick-action projects that help communities become more livable by improving public places, transportation, housing, digital connections, and more, according to a news release.
The program is part of AARP’s nationwide Livable Communities initiative, which supports the efforts of cities, towns, neighborhoods and rural areas to become great places to live for all residents, especially those age 50 and older.
All projects must be completed by Dec. 15, 2024. To submit an application and view past grantees, visit www.AARP.org/CommunityChallenge.
Broadband Office seeks input
The Arkansas State Broadband Office (ARConnect) is seeking public feedback on the draft of its Digital Skills and Opportunity Plan.
The plan was developed based on data from more than 12,000 survey responses, 32 focus groups, and extensive in-person visits to all 75 counties. It aims to formulate an action plan to equip all Arkansans with the digital skills necessary to succeed in the 21-century digital economy, according to a news release.
People are encouraged to visit broadband.arkansas.gov, review the plan, and provide feedback by utilizing the public comment form.
