SEARK softball’s Louisiana trip scrapped
Southeast Arkansas College’s four-game trip at a softball tournament in Youngsville, La., scheduled for Friday and Saturday has been canceled due to the possibility of inclement weather in the area.
SEARK (2-0) launched its softball program with a doubleheader sweep of Mississippi Delta Community College on Monday. In lieu of the visit to Louisiana, the Sharks will now play a doubleheader at Holmes Community College in Goodman, Miss., starting at 2 p.m. today. The Sharks will then take on the University of Arkansas Rich Mountain in Mena on Monday.
Art league plans meeting
The Pine Bluff Art League will host its monthly meeting from 2-4 p.m. Sunday at the Donald W. Reynolds Community Services Building, 211 W. Third Ave. The league invites area artists and beginners to attend this free event.

Participants will work individually or collaboratively to cut into printmaking blocks using carving tools. Artists will then use a brayer and special paper to make prints from the wood blocks without a printing press. Materials are included for this exercise, according to a news release.
League members are encouraged to bring their original work to be voted on by their peers to be displayed at Simmons Bank in Pine Bluff, Relyance Bank in Pine Bluff and Fairfield Community Credit Union in White Hall until the next meeting when new work will be selected.
Members may have their work shown at the Arts & Science Center for Southeast Arkansas during the Pine Bluff Art League Juried Exhibition.

DAV sets virtual career fair
DAV (Disabled American Veterans) and RecruitMilitary® will co-host the Transitioning Army & Spouse Virtual Veterans Career Fair from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Feb. 6. The event is free to veterans, their spouses, active-duty military personnel and members of the National Guard and Reserve, according to a news release.
More than 25 employers will be on-site. Also, the veterans expected to attend can utilize career counseling and resume assistance, network with fellow veterans and military personnel, and get support with their Department of Veterans Affairs benefits and claims assistance — all at no cost.

Soybean association to meet in Stuttgart
The Arkansas Soybean Association will hold its annual Business Session and Seminar on Feb. 6 at the Grand Prairie Center in Stuttgart. Registration will begin at 8 a.m. The program starts at 9 a.m. and will conclude with lunch.
Lunch will be provided by the Arkansas Soybean Promotion Board and meeting sponsors, according to a news release.
The program will include a report from the soybean promotion board and recognition of the Grow for the Green Soybean Yield Challenge winners. Jeremy Ross will present an overview of the contest.
Additional speakers include: Scott Bray, director of the Plant Industries Division with the Arkansas Department of Agricultuare; Hunter Biram, assistant professor in the Department of Agricultural Economics and Agribusiness at the University of Arkansas; Doug Hartz, producer from Stuttgart and vice chair of the soybean promotion board; and Kyle Kunkler, director of government affairs with the American Soybean Association.
Topics will include an update on Crop Insurance and the Farm Bill, a federal legislative update (including endangered species and farm bill issues), an update on agriculture in Arkansas. The soybean association will hold its annual business session of membership.

Nominations open for Women’s Hall of Fame
The Arkansas Women’s Hall of Fame is seeking nominations for the 2024 Induction Class.
The AWHOF was created to honor women whose contributions have influenced the direction of Arkansas in their community or the state.
Each year, the AWHOF inducts contemporary (living) or historical (deceased) women who were born in and achieved prominence within the state or been a resident of Arkansas for an extended period after achieving prominence here or elsewhere.
Honorees have:
Made significant and enduring contributions to their field of endeavor, professional or otherwise.
Affected the social, cultural, economic or political well being of the community, state or nation.
Elevated the status of women and positively impacted women and girls.
Helped open new frontiers for women and for society in general.
Inspired others by their example.
