WCHS choir, band concert set

The community is invited to attend the annual Watson Chapel High School Band and Choir Concert at 6 p.m. Thursday in the school’s auditorium. Also, from 8 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Thursday, the choir will take a community service and goodwill field trip to the schools and the city to render service and spread Christmas cheer through caroling, according to a news release.

Jefferson Foundation sets gala

Jefferson Regional Foundation will host the Winter Wonderland Ball 2024 at the White Hall Community Center on Feb. 24.

The cocktail hour will begin at 6 p.m. Dinner will be served at 7 p.m. followed by entertainment, according to a news release. Details: Laura Beth Shaner, (870) 541-7210.

Kingfest Marade applications available

Applications are available for the 40th annual Original KingFest™ Celebration Marade in Pine Bluff at 2 p.m. Jan. 15. Kingfest honors the legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.

Marade participants will line up at Third Avenue and Walnut Street at 1 p.m. The Marade will travel east on Third Avenue to Convention Center Drive and south to the Pine Bluff Civic Center where there will be a short youth educational program, according to a news release from Pine Bluff Interested Citizens for Voter Registration.

The Marade theme is “Living the Dream through Unity in the Community.” Using the theme, Marade participants should display messages on floats, cars, banners, and signs. Awards will be given for the most provocative banner, poster, or float using the Marade theme.

All bands can also participate in the “Ninth Annual MLK KINGFEST Lorenzo Smith Battle of the Bands.” Winners will receive trophies. Churches, social and civic organizations, youth groups, neighborhood watch groups, sororities, fraternities, school bands, businesses, and elected officials join in to celebrate the legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.

Crossett to be capital for day

Gov. Sarah Sanders announced that Crossett will be the Capital for a Day today and she invites senior state government officials to join her in a visit to the city. It will be the sixth city designated in this program and will momentarily serve as Arkansas’ seat of government.

Sanders’ Capital for a Day program highlights cities around Arkansas like Crossett and brings state officials into town to meet with their local counterparts and to ensure that adequate services are provided to all Arkansans, according to a news release.
