Dentist to address Ivy Center

The Ivy Center for Education has rescheduled its session with Dr. Garrett Taylor from Garrett Taylor DDS on Jan. 2 from 6-7 p.m. at the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences South Central, 1601 W. 40th Ave.

The local dentist will make a presentation to the Ivy Center’s Club Scrub students about the importance of dental hygiene and career opportunities in the field of dentistry, according to a news release.

Interested seventh through 12th graders are encouraged to attend. For convenience, everyone should enter from the back entrance of the UAMS building. Those who cannot attend in person, may join the session on Zoom at https://us02web.zoom.us/j/85682964187?pwd=QlJ4REF5NFp5WGFLblJHWXFTdC8rQT09.

Economic board includes 2 locals

Arkansas Economic Developers and Chamber Executives announced the election of its 2024 Board of Directors. A new member and a current director have ties to southeast Arkansas.

New board members include Logan Molock, the vice president of economic development at the Stuttgart Chamber of Commerce. Molock joins the board as a member At Large. Her term expires Dec. 31, 2024.

Nancy Lee McNew of the Economic Development Alliance for Jefferson County completed her term as board president at the end of 2023 but will remain on the board as immediate past president and an officer through 2024.

New board members also include: Colleen Bailey, City of North Little Rock; Alicia Payseno, City of Cabot; Leo Cummings III, Conway Area Chamber of Commerce; Anita Brackin, Fort Smith Regional Chamber of Commerce; Tonya Fletcher, Paris Area Chamber of Commerce; and Bentley Story, Entergy Arkansas. Their terms begin Jan. 1, according to a news release. Details: aedce.org.

Zeta Phi Beta offers scholarship

Epsilon Zeta Zeta Chapter of Zeta Phi Beta Sorority Inc. will provide a $1,000 scholarship ($500 each semester) to a young woman enrolled at the University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff and a $500 scholarship ($250 each semester) to a young woman enrolled at Southeast Arkansas College.

Applicants must have a 3.0 grade point average. The application, an official transcript, and letters of recommendation on the letter writer’s official letterhead may be emailed to epilonzz.pb@gmail.com and/or mailed to P.O. Box 1161, Pine Bluff, AR, 71613 by March 2, 2024.

Zeta Phi Beta was founded in 1920 on the campus of Howard University in Washington, D.C. The sorority promotes “scholarship, service, sisterhood and finer womanhood,” according to a news release. Nastassia Merriweather is president of Epsilon Zeta Zeta Chapter of Zeta Phi Beta.

Area Agency tells menu

Area Agency on Aging of Southeast Arkansas is serving lunches from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. weekdays at the senior centers. Here’s next week’s menu:

Jan. 1 — The agency will be closed for New Year’s Day. Southeast Arkansas Transportation (SEAT) will still be taking patients to cancer and dialysis appointments.

Jan. 2 — Cheesy chicken and potato casserole, brussels sprouts, dinner roll, winter hot fruit, and milk.

Jan. 3 — Taco soup, tortilla chips, salsa, lettuce salad, fruit, and milk.

Jan. 4 — Smothered pork cutlet, pickled beets, broccoli, roll, cobbler, and milk.

Jan. 5 — Meatballs with gravy, carrots, mashed potatoes, wheat bread, fruit cocktail, and milk.
