First Ward pantry to feed first responders
The First Ward Living Grace Pantry, 1201 Commerce Road, will have a First Responders Lunch from noon to 3 p.m. Wednesday.
“We have over 20 restaurants that have stepped up to feed these Pine Bluff heroes from the fire on Sunday,” according to a news release.
There was a fire at an a vacant church at Sixth Avenue and Laurel Street on Sunday evening.
Organizers will highlight the dedicated first responders including those of the Pine Bluff Fire and Emergency Services Department, Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office, Pine Bluff Police Department, Emergency Ambulance Service Inc. (EASI) Ambulance Service and 911 operators.

Back-to-school event set
Lou’s Helping Hands will present a back-to-school event at 11 a.m. Saturday at 1210 S. Cherry St. There will be vendors and special guests including DJ XL Jimmy Logan and Divine Dancing LLC.
Supporters or participants will include First Ward Living Grace Pantry, Designs by Faith, NAACP, Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office, Emergency Ambulance Service Inc. among others, according to a news release.
House of Bread to give away food
House of Bread Deliverance Church, 1501 W. Second Ave., will give away food Aug. 17 from 11 a.m. until all food boxes are gone. Clients must provide proof of address, which must be at least a driver’s license, identification, or utility bills, according to a news release.
A new Oasis Insight Client Intake Form will now be used instead of the old intake form. The new form is being used by all food pantries in the Arkansas Food Bank network. All clients will fill out these new client intake forms. Details: Saint Mary Harris, pastor of House of Bread, (870) 872-2196.
Area Agency plans menu
Area Agency on Aging of Southeast Arkansas is serving lunches from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. weekdays at the senior centers. Next week’s menu includes:
Aug. 19 — Pasta with meat sauce, green salad, garlic bread, Jell-O with fruit, and milk.
Aug. 20 — Tuna salad on wheat bread or with crackers, broccoli slaw, fresh orange, and milk.
Aug. 21 — Breaded pork cutlet with gravy, carrots, steamed cabbage, zippy apple salad, and milk.
Aug. 22 — Mexican chicken, southwestern corn, zucchini, cookie, and milk.
Aug. 23 — Meatloaf, cauliflower with cheese, green peas, mixed fruit, and milk.
