Movement extends Justice Sunday
As a continuum of Justice Sunday, which was Jan. 19, Arkansas’ Lead PBICVR PEN OR PENCIL Faith-based Mentoring Movement has distributed resources to Neighbor to Neighbor Executive Director Pat Tate and CASA Women’s Shelter Director Tamela Garth.
Justice Sunday is organized by the National Alliance of Faith and Justice. The support the movement gave to Neighbor to Neighbor and CASA Women’s Shelter enhances their volunteer efforts to provide meals and services to the community, according to a news release.
“We are pleased to offer complimentary bags of coating mix developed by Waffles and What Not to assist in the healthy and flavorful preparation of chicken and other dishes,” PEN OR PENCIL faith-based mentor James Hill Jr. said.
The National Alliance of Faith and Justice and its partners use Justice Sunday to honor those “who have sacrified and volunteered, particularly those of faith and justice” and to commit to a year of service to follow.

Cooking meals played a pivotal role in volunteer service during the Civil Rights Movement by addressing basic needs, fostering community spirit and offering essential support and education, according to the news release. Today volunteers can provide healthy, balanced meals and educate recipients about proper nutrition, contributing to overall community health.
“Often, persons who volunteer their time at churches and certified environments prepare meals to provide to those unable to leave their homes, such as the elderly, ill or disabled, etc. This outreach by Pastors on Patrol ensures that all community members feel connected and cared for,” PBICVR President Derrick L. Newby Sr. said.
Burn ban in Jefferson County lifted
A ban on outdoor burning in Jefferson County is lifted, County Judge Gerald Robinson announced Tuesday.
“Citizens are urged to continue to be extremely cautious when burning,” Robinson states in a county order. “Please practice the following safety measures: attend the fire at all times, don’t burn in high winds and keep a water source close by to control the fire.”
A burn ban may be reinstated if necessary, Robinson warns.
