Commissioning set for new Army officers

Five new Army officers are scheduled to be commissioned by the Department of Military Science at Arkansas State University this month.

Arkansas State candidates Robert Adkins Jr. of Sherrill, Steven Crow of Salem, and Landon Grimmett of North Little Rock (and ASU-Beebe) were commissioned as second lieutenants in the Army Reserve.

A ceremony also was held for cadets from the Harding University detachment of the Red Wolf Battalion with the commissioning of two students as second lieutenants. They are Samuel Wilson of Jenks, Okla., and Ryan Tabor of Crossville, Tenn., into the Army Reserves.

All five have earned diplomas from their respective universities.

Adkins earned a bachelor’s degree in engineering technology whose commission is into the Arkansas National Guard military intelligence program.

Crow’s bachelor’s degree is agricultural studies and will be in the Army’s field artillery.

Grimmett earned a bachelor’s in disaster preparedness and emergency management and will transition to the Arkansas National Guard infantry.

Wilson, receiving a bachelor’s degree in marketing from Harding, will be part of the engineer corps in the Reserve, while Tabor earned a bachelor’s in finance, also from Harding.

He also will be a part of the Reserve in the engineer corps.

The ceremony was streamed live on the ASU’s ROTC Facebook page.
