Barbara A. Collins, who formerly served as an interim circuit clerk, announced her candidacy for Jefferson County circuit clerk.

Currently serving as a deputy clerk in the Jefferson County clerk’s office, Collins is a lifelong resident of the county and experienced public servant, according to a news release.

Collins previously served as circuit clerk by appointment after the retirement of former Circuit Clerk Lafayette Woods Sr.

“While in office, she successfully led the office through the challenges of the covid-19 pandemic and implemented an electronic filing system for land records,” according to the release. “With more than 12 years of experience in the clerk’s office and a background in accounting, she pledges to continue improving transparency, efficiency and public access to the court system.”

Collins believes she’s prepared for the new role.

“Jefferson County deserves a circuit clerk who is ready to serve from day one, and I am fully prepared to do just that,” Collins said. “My experience has prepared me to ensure our court system remains accessible, efficient, and accountable to the public.”

Collins holds a Bachelor of Science in accounting from the University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff.

She is a member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority Inc. and serves as chaplain of the Pine Bluff Alumnae Chapter.

Collins is a Christian and the mother of three adult children.
