Coleman: No O-line coach hired just yet

Monte Coleman said he has not hired an offensive line coach full-time for his Arkansas-Pine Bluff football team.

Coleman said Damon Nivens is helping with the line in the meantime, but he is not hired full-time. The head coach also confirmed Nivens is a candidate for the position, which was recently vacated by Bruce Johnson.

“He is extra help,” Coleman said of Nivens. “It will take me some days before I can hire someone full-time. I won’t be able to announce a coach until after the 20th.”

Nivens was mentioned as the new offensive line coach in an online news release on UAPB’s athletic website. According to UAPB sports information, Nivens coached the O-line at Southern from 2006-10 and was interim head coach for a brief time.

Thursday was the Golden Lions’ first day in full pads as temperatures reached 100. The first two-a-day session is today, as the Lions take the practice field at 8:30 a.m. and 2:15 p.m.
