The city of Pine Bluff will join municipalities across the nation in observing a day of national remembrance for covid-19 victims, according to Mayor Shirley Washington’s office.

The Presidential Inaugural Committee has announced a national memorial will be held Jan. 19 to remember and honor the lives lost to covid-19.

Pine Bluff area residents are encouraged to display green light bulbs and green ribbons at their homes throughout the day Jan. 19.

At 6 p.m., residents may honk their car horns for up to 15 seconds in a moment of united memorialization. During this time, church bells and sirens will be heard in various areas for 30 seconds.

“The city has been saddened and forever changed by the individuals we have lost,” according to the news release.”Their impact on Pine Bluff will never be forgotten. As we mourn and reflect on their legacies, it is critical that we support another as a community.”
