ST. JOHN AME CHURCH, 1117 W. Pullen St., will present the 105th annual Women’s Day events. On Saturday, from 10 a.m. to noon, the kickoff will include a buffet salad fest and health fair with “Live Talk” speakers including Dr. Martha A. Flowers, family physician; Dr. Stephen Broughton Jr., cardiologist; and the Rev. Louise Tyler-Tisdale. On Sunday, at 9:30 a.m, Church School will feature Joyce Bracy Vaughan of Greater Ward Chapel AME Church as the guest superintendent. On Sunday, at 3 p.m. the featured evangelist will be Gwen Wayne, associate minister at Second Baptist Church at Little Rock. “She is known for her anointed Holy Ghost-filled teaching and preaching,” according to a news release. In her dedication to see the world know Jesus, she uses her divine gifts to bless others through the intercessory prayer ministry as well as health and wellness ministry at church. Also at the Sunday program, a special tribute will honor the legacy of Bunia Baxter for her outstanding leadership and service. Music will be by Women United for Christ. The public is invited to attend these events. The Rev. Chestine Sims Jr. is the pastor. The theme is “Women Praying and Praising God Through Adversity” (Proverbs 31:25).
PRAYER GARDEN CHRISTIAN FAITH CENTER CHURCH OF GOD IN CHRIST, 800 S. Apple St., will recognize achievements of members, kindergarteners through professionals, at 10 a.m. Sunday. The speaker will be Avery Martin, a member of First Missionary Baptist Church and Student Government president at Friendship Aspire Academy. The pastor is Jerry W. Williams Sr. The public is invited to attend.
NEW COMMUNITY CHURCH, 321 N. Birch St., will host its Kingdom Builders Program at 6 p.m. Sunday. The featured speaker will be Sam Gibson, a deacon at New Community. New Community also has children’s church at 11 a.m. Sundays in the fellowship hall, prayer at noon on weekdays, and Bible Study at 6 p.m. Wednesdays. The community is invited to attend.
GRACE COMMUNITY CHURCH OF THE NAZARENE, 2400 W. 31st Ave., will conduct its Grace Evangelistic Crusade at 6 p.m. June 2-7. The pastor, the Rev. Robert Anderson, invites the community to this outdoor service. If there is rain, the service will be moved inside. Also, at 6 p.m. June 8, the church will host a block party barbecue. “Come and fellowship with us,” a spokesman said.
PRAYER WORKS GOSPEL CHURCH, 1301 W. 15th Ave., will celebrate the first anniversary of the church and the pastor and wife, the Rev. Laydell Jordan and Della Jordan, on June 2. At 11 a.m., service will be held at Prayer Works and the speaker will be Freddy Riley of Bethel New Bethel Missionary Baptist Church. At at 2:30 p.m., service will be held at Amos Chapel Missionary Baptist Church, 1307 W. 16th Ave. The worship leader will be the Rev. Robert Willis, pastor of Amos Chapel. The guest speaker will be the Rev. Frederick Bateman, pastor of Bethel New Bethel, accompanied by the choir. Soloists will include Darnell Jordan Jr., Irish Frazier and Betty Riley of the Beard Singers.
