Organizers say that Main Street is the preferred location for the annual Christmas Parade sponsored by the Jefferson County Civitan Club but they are ready to use Fifth Avenue if necessary.
“We are hoping that they will have everything taken care of in terms of getting Main Street open again before December,” Civitan Treasurer Angela Thayer said.
The parade is scheduled for 2 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 6.
The Southeast Arkansas Livestock and Rodeo Parade on Thursday, Oct. 2, will travel from Convention Center Drive to Cherry Street along Fifth Avenue.
The University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff has yet to determine the route of its Homecoming Parade, scheduled for Saturday, Nov. 8.
The routes of the three parades, which are traditionally held on Main Street, were called into question because of the continued partial closure of Main Street between Sixth and Eighth avenues after a partial building collapse July 25 of the former Sahara Temple at 620 S. Main St. The building owner, Garland Trice, said on Sept. 10 he plans to rehabilitate the building. He has 60 days, starting from Aug. 4, to present a plan to city officials and make steps toward remedying the situation.
