The University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff Small Farm Program, in collaboration with Prairie View A&M University, recently hosted the fifth annual CEP Small Acreage Producer Conference.

The event brought together specialists from PVAMU, UAPB, the Arkansas Cooperative Extension Service, the Arkansas Division of Emergency Management and other partners. Officials delivered timely education and practical strategies for small-acreage producers, according to a news release.

This year’s event was moderated by Brandon Hawkins, PVAMU agent, and Karen Lee, UAPB extension program specialist.

The program focused on key issues affecting rural communities and the agricultural sector. Presenters covered topics related to heirs’ property, emergency and wildlife preparedness, sustainable forestry, succession planning, new and beginning farmer training, food distribution in underserved areas and language access for farmworkers.

The conference’s goal was to provide practical resources and tools that small-acreage producers can apply to the farm operation in a timely and meaningful manner, according to the release.
