Central District Women’s Auxiliary holds Pink Tea

The fellowship hall of the First Baptist Missionary Baptist Church was beautifully adorned in pink and white, with a touch of silver for the women of the Central District.

The women were greeted by the young ladies of the Cup Cakes and Conversation Ministry as they entered the dining hall. Participants from churches of Central District opened up with devotion. Marva Thomas of First Baptist Church led the group in singing “What a Fellowship.” Ella Bullock of First Missionary Baptist Church read III John 2:3. Emma Allen of Reynolds Chapel MBC did a prayer of thanksgiving. Margaret Gaston of Barraque Street MBC urged the breast cancer supporters to “Think Pink, Give a Wink” toward the education and be compassionate toward survivors of breast cancer. It is important for all of us to be a sister’s keeper to the mission of breast cancer.

Elfreda Boyd, Shirley Carey, Connie Dulaney, Ruthene Kelley, Sharon Mallett, Jewelette Courtney and Marva Thomas, assisted the women as they tasted the buffet of food prepared. Tea or punch was served for beverage. A decorated cake was the added dessert.

The guests were entertained by the Central District churches who gave decorated containers filled with currency. This money will go toward the Susan G. Komen Foundation and the Central District Benevolent Fund. Rose Hill was cited for having the most creative container and having the most currency turned in. Eight ladies modeled hats. Judges awarded Verlee Moore of Mason Temple MBC at Altheimer a hat box for being first-place winner. Second place went to Narvell Irby of Second Baptist MBC at Wabbaseka and Edwalyn Johnson of Allen Temple at Stuttgart took third place. Yolanda Prim of Barraque Street MBC introduced the breast cancer survivor speaker, LeNee Jones. Eula Robinson of Pine Hill MBC reminded the supporters in song, “I Won’t Complain,” of how blessed we all are.

Jones gave a moving story of how she survived breast cancer. She mentioned maintaining a strong attitude, having friends for support, and a desire to believe that all things are possible through God. Kiera Mosby of Rose Hill MBC sang from her heart about God’s goodness, according to a spokesman.

Shirley Atkinson of Rose Hill MBC gave some important ‘Think Pink’ health tips of breast cancer awareness. Expressions were given by Renee Wine, Central District Women’s Department president. Supporters were handed a balloon to release as they exited the building to form a circle for support of the Susan G. Komen Foundation. The prayer was led by the Rev. Charles Boyd, pastor of the First Missionary Baptist Church.
