Cash-only bond set in alleged armed disturbance

A $10,000 cash-only bond was set Monday for a man currently on parole who allegedly pointed a gun at another man Saturday during an altercation.

Jefferson County District Judge Kim Bridgforth set the bond after ruling prosecutors had probable cause to charge Levi White, 38, with aggravated assault and with being a felon in possession of a firearm.

According to a probable cause affidavit from Detective Scott Norton, police were sent at about 11 a.m. to the 1800 block of South Beech Street.

The alleged victim said he had gotten into an argument with White over a missing iPad and White left, then returned and pointed a black handgun at the alleged victim before walking into an alley and then walking back out.

Norton said in the affidavit that the alleged victim gave police a description of White and the clothing he was wearing and White was located in the area of West 17th Avenue and Elm Street.

A .40-caliber handgun was found in a grassy area of the alley, according to the affidavit.

When White was interviewed, he allegedly said he had gotten into an argument with the victim but said he did not have a gun and did not go into the alley.

Norton said in the affidavit that White had previously been convicted of second-degree battery and first-degree murder.

He was ordered to have no contact with the alleged victim until the case is settled.

Although a bond was set on the new allegations, White will not be able to post it because of a parole hold. He will be held pending a hearing to determine if he should go back to prison to complete his sentence.
