A $10,000 cash only bond was set Wednesday for a man who fled from an Arkansas State Trooper after the trooper stopped the car the man was in, and who allegedly had drugs in his pocket.
Jefferson County District Judge Kim Bridgforth set the bond after ruling prosecutors have probable cause to charge Shaquis Jones, 21, with possession of a controlled substance with purpose to deliver.
Jones was being sought on a warrant charging him with drug related offenses when Arkansas State Trooper Dustin Thompson pulled over the car Jones was riding in on the parking lot of Auto Zone at West 13th Avenue and Blake Street. Thompson made the stop at 5:50 p.m. because neither Jones nor the driver of the car were wearing a seat belt.
According to a probable cause affidavit from Special Agent Oscar Bullard, Jones gave the trooper a false name, and when the trooper went to his car to get a portable fingerprint scanner, Jones took off running across the lot.
Bullard reported that Thompson used his department-issued taser to subdue Jones, who was then handcuffed.
A search of Jones after the arrest resulted in troopers finding suspected marijuana and a digital scale in Jones’ left front pocket, along with an orange pill bottle containing 22 individually wrapped baggies of suspected crack cocaine in his right front pocket.
Bullard reported that when he attempted to question Jones, he asked for an attorney.
