Cards beat Beavers in first 8-4A game

Dollarway came away from its first 8-4A Conference game of the year with a 56-37 victory against Lake Village on Friday night at home.

The Cardinals (8-1, 1-0 in 8-4A) were led by Jaelin Scott’s 17 points while Jamal Burton added 15. On the inside, Nathan Nowden grabbed 14 rebounds to go along with six points.

Next for the Cardinals is a 7 p.m. Monday night game against Pine Bluff.

Coach Larry Harris said his team did not come out hard in the first quarter, but from there the Pirates blew the game open with full-court pressure and man-to-man defense.

Drew Central hosts Monticello tonight, with action for the varsity boys game starting at about 7:30 p.m.

EL DORADO — The Lady Bulldogs improved to 8-1 by outscoring the Lady Wildcats 30-15 in the second half. Tyeshia Harris led the way with 12 points, followed by Juquecia Chaney’s 10-point, seven-assist night. Olydia Thornton added nine rebounds.

Star City’s next game is a 5 p.m. Thursday home game against Monticello.

HERMITAGE — The Lady Pirates went to 10-1 behind double-digit scoring efforts from Aaliyah Block (15 points), Stephanie Ridgell (12) and Aesha Smith (11). Drew Central led 38-8 at halftime.

Today, the Lady Pirates face the Lady Billies of Monticello for a 6 p.m. home game.
