Several candidates have filed petitions with sufficient signatures to appear on the Nov. 5 general election ballot.
The filing period began at noon July 31 for independent municipal candidates and school board candidates. Filing will end at noon Aug. 7, according to a news release from the Jefferson County clerk’s office.
So far, the following candidates have filed petitions to seek the following political offices:

ELECTION-RELATED DATES
Early voting will be held at the county courthouse Oct. 21 through Nov. 4. Voting occurs Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 6 p.m., and Saturday, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Oct. 29 is the deadline to receive absentee ballot applications by mail, fax or email. On Nov. 5, election day, polls will be open 7:30 a.m. to 7:30 p.m.
