An otherwise brutal series to open the baseball season ended with the University of Arkansas at Monticello’s first win of the season.
UAM scored on a bases-loaded walk and wild pitch in the sixth inning, coming from behind to beat Northwest Missouri State 6-5 on Saturday at Majestic Park in Hot Springs. The Boll Weevils salvaged a win after losing Saturday’s first game to the Bearcats 5-3.
Northwest Missouri (5-3) routed UAM 15-1 in seven innings and 18-8 on Friday to start the Weevils’ season.
In Saturday’s second game, Gabe Kuttenkuler put UAM (1-3) on the board with a one-run single and scored on an error in the first inning to give the Weevils a 2-1 lead.
Daniel Lizarraga smashed a two-run homer in the second to pad the lead to 4-1. Northwest Missouri crept back to take a 5-4 lead through the fourth, thanks to a wild pitch, John Connors single, fielder’s choice and passed ball.

Eli Marvin sent home the tying run on a bases-loaded walk in the sixth. Drew Floyd scored on the wild pitch with two outs.
Beau Kuttenkuler went 2 for 3 to led UAM, which will play its home opener at 6 p.m. Tuesday against Arkansas Tech.
