Bobcats see season end at state

HARRISON — Lonoke was able to build up seven runs in the game, but Dumas could not get a lot of offense going as Lonoke went on to win 7-2 in the quarterfinals of the Class 4A state baseball tournament on Friday.

Blake Downen pitched the first five innings for Dumas, which ended the season with a 16-3 record. It was Downen’s first loss of the season. Trey Winchester came on to face one batter and Matthew Miller pitched the rest of the game.

Class 2A

Junction City 11, Magazine 6 (8 inn.)

WHITE HALL — The Dragons got some breaks in the extra inning to pull away from the Rattlers in a 2A quarterfinal.

A close diving attempt at right field with two outs and Junction City leading 7-6 was ruled not a catch, allowing the Dragons to add a run. They also scored after back-to-back singles, a triple and during a rundown from first to second base.

Magazine led 3-0, but Junction City tied it after three innings and took a 6-3 lead in the fourth. Magazine came back to knot it in the sixth.

Colt Michael and Dylon Disotell each pounded three hits to lead Junction City. Layton Robinson had two hits for Magazine.

Class 5A

Nettleton 7, Vilonia 3

MONTICELLO — Vilonia took a brief 3-2 lead in the top of the sixth before Nettleton came back to claim a 7-3 win in the quarterfinals of the Class 5A state tournament Friday.

Nettleton (20-10) scored five runs in the bottom of the sixth to win.

Jake Smith got the win as he pitched 6 1/3 innings, gave up one earned run, struck out four and walked three. Jacob Sutton pitched two-thirds of an inning for Nettleton.

Nettleton, the No. 3 seed from the East, plays at noon today in Monticello against White Hall.

Greene County Tech 2, Harrison 1

MONTICELLO — Greene County Tech got two runs in the bottom of the seventh to beat Harrison 2-1 on Friday in the Class 5A quarterfinals.

Ross Adams tied the game in the bottom of the seventh with an RBI, and Nick Pillow hit a ground ball to the shortstop, which was misplayed and allowed the winning run to score for Greene County Tech (23-4).

Nathan Wright pitched eight innings, gave up one earned run and struck eight batters for the win.

Dalton Lovell got the loss for Harrison (23-7) as he struck out seven batters.

Greene County Tech, the No. 1 seed from the East, plays at 2:30 p.m. today in Monticello against Watson Chapel.
