The “Blues By Budweiser” concert series will feature Ghost Town Blues Band at 8 p.m. on July 6 at RJ’s Grill & Bar, 128 S. Main St.

The doors will open at 7 p.m. Port City Blues Society members are admitted free. Regular admission is $5. The concert series is being sponsored by MK Distributors.

“Horns, harmonies and homegrown instruments combined with an energetic and roots rich festival set makes Ghost Town Blues Band one of the must see live bands on the festival scene today,” according to a news release.

“Both Andrew McNeill behind the drums and Matt Karner on the bass guitar are a punishing rhythm section behind multi-instrumentalist and frontman Matt Isbell with raunchy cigar box guitar licks and raspy ‘Dr. Johnlike’ vocals. With the addition of Trombonist Suavo Jones, Cedric Taylor on Hammond B3 and Taylor Orr on lead guitar, the grooves go from fresh to funky as the band is steadily gaining notoriety on the blues festival and jam circuit,” according to the release.

Their new album “Shine” debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard Blues Chart. Their live shows have been entertaining audiences in the U.S., Canada and Europe with their “second-line horn entrance,” cigar box guitars and electric push brooms with Allman Brothers style jams and a hip-hop trombone player,” according to the release.

The performance has been called the best new live blues show in the world.

Ghost Town Blues Band recently headlined the blues stage at The Montreal Jazz Festival and appeared at The Lucerne Blues Festival in Switzerland.

The band has performed across the U.S. and Canada at more than 100 festivals and has toured internationally in Europe.

The band was also recognized with the 2020 Maple Blues Awards B.B. King International Artist of the Year; 2019 #1 Billboard Blues Album Chart; 2019 Independent Music Award Nominee – “Best Live Album”; 2018 Tennessee Music Award Winner “Best Blues Band”; 3-Time Blues Blast Music Award Nominee; 2015 BBMA Nominee for “Best Blues Band” and 2014 International Blues Challenge Runner-up, among others.

Port City Blues Society, which presents the blues series, is an affiliated member of The Blues Foundation, which seeks to preserve and promote blues music and the culture of Delta blues and to educate the public about the history of the blues in the region.

The society also hosts a free weekly blues jam every Wednesday from 8-11 p.m. at RJ’s Grill & Bar where area musicians converge to play live blues. Details: pc-blues.com or facebook.com/PCBluesSociety.
