Bids let on $60.9 million in highway projects

LITTLE ROCK — The state Highway Commission chose apparent low bids on $60.1 million in road projects Wednesday, with nearly a third of the total going to the replacement of three highway overpasses on Interstate 40 in eastern Arkansas.

The commission let a $20.1 million bid on construction of the three highway overpasses near Forest City, with Manhattan Road and Bridge Co. of Tulsa, Okla., the low bidder for the projects.

The three highway overpasses include Arkansas 261, about six miles east of Forrest City; Arkansas 38, about four miles east the city; and Arkansas 149, about 17 miles east of the city.

“Those are interchanges on I-40,” said Highway Commission spokesman Randy Ort. “These are bridges that we needed something with. These are bridges that apparently have some issues.”

The commission also let an $8.1 million bid on a contract to replace a bridge on Arkansas 225 over a creek that flows into Greers Ferry Lake in Cleburne County.
