Beta Chi ESA members getreport on chapter awards at recent social

The Beta Chi Chapter of Epsilon Sigma Alpha recently held its social at Star City at the home of Tammy Akines.

The group got the social started with hamburgers and hot dogs with all the trimmings. Great fellowship and catching up on everything that had gone on during the summer was the topic of the social.

The social was topped off with celebrating the birthdays of Kenneth Garrett, husband of Charlotte Garrett, and Floy Davis, chapter president, with an awesome lemon ice box cake.

Vickie McDaniel reported on the awards that the chapter recently won at state convention that was held at the Winthrop Rockefeller Institute at Petit Jean. Beta Chi won second place in donations to Arkansas Love Fund and third place in money per member in St. Jude Children’s Hospital. Deann Stewart also received an award recently at the International Convention held at Norman, Okla., for raising the most money for an individual for the St. Jude Children’s Hospital Marathon. Stewart raised more than $6,100. She is currently in training again for this year’s half marathon. Those who would like to help her make her goal, should call 870-540-7511. The marathon will be ran on Dec. 1 at Memphis, Tenn. Beta Chi also received a Certificate of Appreciation for supporting Hopes for Heroes, from NATO Training Mission-Afghanistan/Combined Security Transition Command Afghanistan.

Beta Chi helps local organizations, including CASA. All members brought school supplies for the children to the meeting. The group will donate different items during the year.

The chapter is preparing for the rodeo at Hestand’s Stadium on Sept. 25-29. The group will be selling cotton candy and candy apples.

The chapter is also preparing for South East Regional Conference that will be held in Memphis, Tenn., on November 2-3, where Akines will be installed as SERC president. Akines has worked very hard to reach this level and the chapter is “very proud of her”. Many Arkansas chapters will be attending this conference. SERC is made up of 12 states, including Arkansas, Louisiana, Mississippi, Alabama, Georgia, Florida, South Carolina, North Carolina, Tennessee, Kentucky, Virginia and Maryland.

The chapter is seeking new members. Those interested in joining, should call 870-540-7511.
