Little Rock sports media personality David Bazzel will serve as master of ceremonies for the Jefferson County Sports Hall of Fame banquet April 26 at the Pine Bluff Country Club.
“We are very excited to have David Bazzel as our host,” said hall Chairman Jeff Gross. “I’ve known David for many years through his hard work with the Little Rock Touchdown Club and Awards Banquet.”
Bazzel has made almost 3,000 public appearances over the years as a speaker, host and emcee, according to a news release. The Arkansas Sports Hall of Fame inducted Bazzel in 2014.
Bazzel currently hosts “Morning Buzz” on KABZ-FM 103.7 The Buzz and appears on KATV as a voice on University of Arkansas football. He began his career in media in 1996 as a weekend sports anchor at KARK and moved to KATV to attend UA games for the station.
In August 2001, “The Buzz” hired Bazzel to co-host an afternoon talk show known as “Drive Time Sports.” He began co-hosting “Morning Buzz” in November that year and left in 2003, but returned in the fall of 2005 to work alongside Tommy Smith, who retired in 2022.
Born in Panama City, Fla., Bazzel signed with UA and went on to lead the Razorbacks to four bowl games under Lou Holtz and Ken Hatfield in the 1980s. He is known for creating the Frank Broyles Award, given to the top college football assistant coach in the country. In association with the Little Rock Touchdown Club, Bazzel also created the Cliff Harris Award for the nation’s top small college football players on defense, the Dan Hampton Award for the top high school and college defensive linemen in Arkansas, the Willie Roaf Award for the top high school and college offensive linemen in Arkansas, and the Darren McFadden Award for the top high school and college running backs in the state.
