Aviation Commission discusses several topics at meeting

The Pine Bluff Aviation Committee voted in favor of revising their Airport Minimum Standards document at a meeting on Thursday. Chairman Ken Johnson was concerned that the wording of the current document, page four section six, would be confusing or discouraging to the public. The board voted unanimously to meet with the city attorney to have that document revised and to have standards consistent throughout the document.

In other news, Johnson announced that “Operation Skyhook” will be returning to Pine Bluff in May. The exact dates have not yet been established, but will be announced at a later date. “We are excited about them coming back to Pine Bluff,” Johnson said.

According to http://www.bpapilots.org, “Operation Skyhook” is the largest event attended during Memorial Day. Member chapters arrive for a weekend of fun, aviation, camaraderie, and serious flying competition. The event draws a tremendous number of spectators from the surrounding area, and members volunteer to give airplane rides to hundreds of kids.

In other news, the commission discussed that there have not been any updates to the ADA Grant that has been applied for.

The commission has been working to have repairs done to the hangar two roof. Airport Manager Doug Hale has been fixing repairs himself to maintain the roof during the rainy season, and bids have been made for construction companies to fully repair the roof. Hale also reported that the gas truck has been repaired, and the tractor bush hog is currently under repair.
