Assessor’s Office now offering online assessments

Jefferson County residents can now assess their personal property online, thanks to a contract between the County Assessor’s Office and an Arkansas company called DataScout LLC.

County Assessor Yvonne Humphrey said the new program can be accessed by going to www.assessjeffersoncounty.com or by going to the company’s website, www.actDataScout.com and clicking on the link called Assess Personal Property.

She said there are a number of benefits for the county and taxpayers, such as people being able to assess their personal property without ever visiting the courthouse.

“They can assess from the convenience of their home or office any time throughout the day, even if it is after business hours,” she said.

In addition, the program will allow her staff to respond more efficiently to all the personal property assessment requests made by taxpayers.

In order to assess online, people will need to provide a last name, zip code and house number, and the program will allow renewals or deletions only. To add personal property, taxpayers will still have to go to the courthouse.

Less than a third of the counties in the state currently offer online personal property assessments, Humphrey said, and those that do have reported significant decreases in office traffic, and have received overwhelmingly favorable comments from the public.
