The Arkansas State Police are assisting the Monticello Police Department in the investigation of a man who died outside a Monticello apartment complex early Tuesday, according to a news release from the ASP.
Monticello police responded to Turtle Creek Apartments at 727 North Slemmons St. about 12:55 a.m., where the body of Ja’Marius Raymon Lewis, 21, of Monticello was found along a walkway at the apartment complex, the news release said. He was later pronounced dead at the scene.
Special agents with the Arkansas State Police Criminal Investigation Division suspect Lewis was shot outside one of the apartments. The body was transported to the Arkansas State Crime Laboratory for an autopsy to determine the exact manner and cause of death.
The investigation into the death is continuing and state police special agents will continue to work closely with Monticello authorities and the Drew County prosecuting attorney.
